Literacy Backpacks

The goal of the Literacy Project was to strengthen the home-school connection and parents' involvement in their child's learning while building our students vocabulary and love of reading. Backpacks contained K-2 fiction and non-fiction texts along with an extension activity for the family such as a reflection journal, bingo game, puzzle, etc...

Richmond was the first recipient of the Literacy backpacks in 2010-2011.  The 2012-2013 Foundation Grant allowed for the expansion of this program to school wide with an increase of non-fiction texts in each backpack to support science, social studies and math at each grade level.  Six Go Readers were also purchased for the 2nd grade backpacks.
